Buying

There are many good books that will give you a basic understanding of both the French legal system and some of the customs which you may find unfamiliar in this country.

I can only speak from my own personal experience, and it may seem like common sense, but the amount of homework that one invests in researching the particular area in which you would like to buy can often be directly proportionate to the number of nasty surprises that you can receive along the way. For my part, I spent approximately 4 years which in truth, amounted to probably 5 or 6 weeks researching the area, finding out exactly where I thought I wanted to be, and basically making sure that I was not buying in an area that was likely to be an unusually difficult area to re-sell and equally one that if I ever decided to let the property, that there would be a ready market at a commercial rent.

In reality the vast majority of French Estate Agents rely on their websites, which unfortunately are not always kept up to date, and many of the more attractive properties appear to have been sold and left on the website for some considerable time. The whole objective of the service that we are offering is to offer some advice on where the more popular and saleable areas are, and to coach would be purchasers through some of the subtleties of the French house market which might not be obviously apparent when walking through the doors of the various Estate Agents.
